Commercial fishing crops, including shrimp and oysters, contribute greatly to the state’s economy.
Louisiana is known as the “Sportsman’s Paradise” because of its natural resources that support many outdoor activities, including sport fishing, water sports, and biking. Tourism, a large industry of the state, highlights notable historic Plantation homes of Natchitoches, Cajun Country, and New Orleans. New Orleans, Louisiana’s most famous city, is known as the birthplace of jazz and has been home to its world famous annual Mardi Gras celebration since 1838.
